N.E.W Careers Enhancement Project (NEW Project)
2008-2010
The Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson Careers Enhancement Project (NEW Project) funded by NC Eastern Region and administered by the Turning Point Workforce Development Board was quite a success. A total of 5834 assessments were completed with 1566 Career Readiness Certificates being earned from September 2008 to June 30, 2010 as a result of this project. 6 job profiles were completed. A total of $70,720 was spent in the 3 counties of the Eastern Region. The project allowed collaborative efforts between Nash CC, Edgecombe CC, Wilson CC, Joblink Career Centers, the Eastern Region, the Workforce Board and area businesses.
Halifax/Northampton Workkeys Initiative
2009-2010
Halifax and Northampton Counties benefited tremendously from the Workkeys Initiative funded by the Department of Commerce and administered by the Turning Point Workforce Development Board. A total of 1219 assessments were given with 308 Career Readiness Certificates being earned. 3 job profiles were completed at Halifax Regional Medical Center. A total of $19,990 was expended between January 2009 and January 2010. As a result of the job profiling and assessments for Halifax Regional, an awards ceremony was held December 2009 and March 2010 to recognize employees that earned a Career Readiness Certificate. The project allowed collaborative efforts between the Joblink Career Center, Halifax Community College, area companies and the Workforce Development Board. Some companies have expressed an interest in utilizing the CRC in the application process.
Workkeys Works
2010-2011
The Workkeys Works Initiative (WWI) was funded by the Eastern Region and administered by the Turning Point Workforce Development Board, as the final round of funds, extended from the NEW Project of 2008-2010. This initiative targeted high school students in Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties to complete the workkeys assessments and obtain a Career Readiness Certificate. The project yielded 965 assessments and 306 Career Readiness Certificates, with $14,500 expended.
Education Enhancement Initiative
2011
This initiative is funded by the Turning Point Workforce Development Board to target high school students in Halifax and Northampton Counties to complete workkeys assessments and obtain a Career Readiness Certificate. Students should express an interest in advanced manufacturing, allied health or the construction industry. The project ends September 2011.
